Netherlands Tour for Women

A bike and barge journey through the picturesque countryside and villages of the Netherlands

Discover the Netherlands in full bloom on this unforgettable bike and barge tour designed exclusively for women. From the winding canals of Amsterdam to the tulip fields, windmills, and storybook villages of the Dutch countryside, this unique journey brings you deep into the heart of Holland—one pedal at a time.

We begin for two nights in Amsterdam with a welcome dinner and guided stroll through the city’s historic centre. Then we board the Fleur, our exclusively chartered barge and floating hotel for the week, and set off on a relaxed route through scenic landscapes and iconic towns. Each day, we cycle at a comfortable pace—thanks to our pedal-assisted e-bikes—passing through tulip fields, lakeside paths, and charming towns like Haarlem, Leiden, Gouda, and Alkmaar. Highlights include the spectacular Keukenhof Gardens, a visit to the world-famous flower auction in Aalsmeer, a cheese tasting at a local farm, and a visit to a traditional windmill museum. We’ll also explore the open-air village of Zaanse Schans, rich with historic windmills and wooden houses, and wrap up our journey with a canal cruise back in Amsterdam.

While the e-bikes provide gentle power support and make riding easier, this is still an active adventure. We’ll spend full days cycling—sometimes up to 45 km—and enjoy walking tours through towns and villages along the way. The e-bikes are slightly heavier than traditional bicycles, and using them comfortably requires a good sense of balance and moderate physical strength.

This is not just a visit to Amsterdam—it’s a full immersion into Dutch culture, landscapes, and lifestyle. With cycling options each day, the chance to relax on board if you prefer, and plenty of local experiences, this tour is as energizing as it is enriching.

Join us on our Netherlands tour for women, a journey through tulip country, designed with camaraderie, comfort, and discovery in mind.

Active
A good level of fitness is important for this trip. You must be comfortable cycling up to 45km per day on routes graded as ‘mostly flat with a few short ups and downs.’ There are opportunities for walks in villages;
be prepared for uneven terrain and cobblestones. You must be able to walk unassisted for up to three hours at a time. Having e-bikes makes the biking portion easier but they are heavy and do require strength to operate.

During our Netherlands adventure, we will stay two nights in a centrally located hotel in Amsterdam, offering comfortable, well-appointed rooms with private bathroom facilities. For the remainder of the tour, we will stay aboard the Fleur, a small, tastefully designed barge exclusively chartered for our group. The Fleur features 10 cozy guest cabins, each with two single beds, private shower, toilet, central heating, air conditioning, hair dryer, and a mini safe. The upper deck includes a lounge with large windows, a dining area, and a bar, while the sun deck offers a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the scenery. Wi-Fi is available on board. The vessel moves to a new destination daily, and we dine, sleep, and enjoy breakfast onboard throughout the cruise.

During this tour
We will travel by high-quality, pedal-assisted electric bikes (e-bikes) and a comfortably appointed, exclusively chartered barge, the Fleur. The barge serves as our floating hotel, transporting us daily between destinations while we enjoy scenic cycling routes through the Dutch countryside. A coach transfer is included from the Amsterdam hotel to the embarkation point for the barge cruise and from the barge to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

Temperatures at this time of year are terrific for an active cycling tour, with daytime highs around 12 °C
and overnight lows around 5 °C. In windier areas and near the ocean, temperatures are naturally cooler. Skies are typically a mix of sun and cloud with a small chance of rain.

You will require a passport for this trip. Please ensure it is valid for at least 6 months beyond your scheduled return date. At this time Canadian and American travellers do not require tourist visas to visit the Netherlands.

If you are travelling on your own and would like to share accommodation, we would be happy to try to match you with a suitable roommate. We do our best to ask each woman some questions to help our matchmaking process 🙂

If we are unable to find you the right match, the single cost applies. (This rarely happens)

We’d like to make sure that you know about our Worldwide Explorers Club. Travel twice with us and we’ll say a special thank you by taking 5% off all your subsequent trips. The bonus applies to our brochure trips only, is non-transferrable, and cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount or credit.  Note that some exceptions may apply as indicated on the tour’s Detailed Itinerary.
