Early morning at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Our rooms are very comfortable with a great view of the water hole from our balcony. The water hole is starting to get busy as the birds and animals come in for a drink. The restaurant also has a great view so you can watch the animals as you eat breakfast. The food is excellent with a great variety of foods to choose from and the service is excellent. The first to arrive at the water hole are the maribu stork, then along came warthogs, impala, a family of baboons and vultures are perched in the trees We even spot some horse and riders out for an early morning ride. There’s a great view of the pool area from the restaurant. Some of us plan on enjoying some down time there in the scorching heat of the afternoon. The temperature climbs into the high 30’s.
In the afternoon they hotel staff feed the vultures. This is part of a project to bring back the almost extinct birds. We have a birds eye view from the restaurant. It was quit a site to watch as hundreds of vultures circle above or sit patiently in the trees waiting for the signal to move in. The storks and the vultures fight for the scraps. After eating the vultures must wait a while for the food to digest, the weight of their full belly keeps them from flying. Out front of the resort a family of warthogs root in the lawn for food. One looks like he found a mud puddle to lay in.
